Hosting and server logs
This site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. Serving a page necessarily means Vercel receives your IP address along with the request, and its infrastructure keeps short-lived operational logs to deliver content and defend against abuse.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: a legitimate interest in running a site that is available and not being attacked. There is no realistic way to serve a web page without processing the requesting IP address. Transfers to the United States are covered by Vercel's data processing agreement and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Analytics
This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It is worth being specific about how it works, because it is unusual:
- It sets no cookies. Visitors are identified by a hash derived from the incoming request, computed on the server.
- That session hash is discarded after 24 hours and is never stored permanently.
- Data points are not tied to or associated with any individual or IP address.
- It does not track you across other websites and cannot reconstruct a browsing session beyond this domain.
What it records per page view: timestamp, the URL and its route pattern, referrer, filtered query parameters, coarse geolocation (country, region, city), operating system, browser, and device type. Legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, a legitimate interest in knowing roughly which pages get read.
Why there is no cookie banner
Because nothing is stored on or read from your device. Consent under § 25 TDDDG is required for storing or accessing information on a visitor's terminal equipment, and this site does neither: no cookies, no local storage, no device fingerprinting. There is nothing to ask you to agree to, so you are not asked.
Fonts and third parties
All fonts are served from this domain. There are no Google Fonts requests, no embedded videos from third-party platforms, no social widgets, no tag manager, and no advertising network. Loading a page here contacts this site and nothing else.
Some pages link out to other sites, and a few projects are hosted elsewhere. Once you follow such a link, that operator's own privacy policy applies and this one stops being relevant.
If you email me, I receive your address and whatever you write, and I keep the message as long as the conversation is useful. That processing rests on Article 6(1)(b) or 6(1)(f) GDPR depending on why you wrote. I do not add correspondents to any mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
Your rights
Under Articles 15 to 21 GDPR you may request access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, and portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to andrew.mcgehee@gmail.com and I will handle it myself.
You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. For my location that is Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover.

If this site starts doing something new with data, this page changes with it and the date above moves.
